About CL Douglas

CL Douglas, a U.S. Army and Police veteran, said for years that someone ought to write this stuff down, meaning the accounts of life on the streets lived through the eyes of a street cop – the stories too funny or too tragic to have been made up. The growing divide between culture and law enforcement in the wake of highly publicized uses of force prompted him to return to the streets and tell the stories of wins and losses, misunderstandings and mistrust in an effort to shrink the gap between those in uniform and the ones they serve.

He spent his school years working on the family farm and was driving a tractor and plowing fields several years before driving his first car, a hotrod, not-street-legal, 1966 Mustang. Immediately after high school graduation he entered the U.S. Army where he served at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Vicenza Italy where he was a part of a Special Weapons detachment assigned to the Italian Army. The Southern European Task Force (S.E.T.A.F.) named him Soldier of the Year representing all U.S. Army units in Italy, Turkey, and Greece.

While serving in Italy he saw the Movie Colors with Robert Duvall and caught the vision of being a police officer in the inner city and working real, urban street crime. He completed his enlistment in Italy as a Sergeant and moved to Oklahoma City to fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer.

CL Douglas is the author of several short stories, blogs, and a small group study for first responders. The sequel to Blue and Grey City, Crosswinds is in the publication pipeline now and he is working on a third book featuring Reed Dixon and his colleagues on the Oklahoma City Police Department. You can read more about those characters here. He is passionate for first responder families and has spoken at conferences and seminars on their behalf. He is also working on a non-fiction memoir.

When he is not writing he can usually be found less than an arms length from his wife and best friend either tending to their farm animals under the overseeing eye of Chopper, their bulldog, or cruising the winding backroads near their rural home in the Southern Appalachian Mountains on his pearl white police model Harley Davidson.
